EML Terms of Use Policies

  1. EML equipment may not be used for any purpose without specific permission.
  2. Any costs incurred over the authorized amount will be paid for by the user himself.
  3. If training and/or research done in the EML results in published works, please acknowledge the EML in your publication and provide us a link to the published work.
  4. Before reserving EML instrument time, read the reservation instructions and cancellation policy below. Please sign up only for the time you need. Failure to appear for reserved time will incur penalties.
  5. The Tecnai 12 TEM has further special policies, please review them here.
  6. The EML FTP server is only used to store and transfer your EM images for your convenience. Using the server for any other purpose is not allowed without permission.
  7. All EM images will be stored on our FTP server for 6 months free of charge.  Image files will be removed from the server automatically after 6 months. Please download and backup your data within the timeframe.
  8. Any misuse of these facilities and/or equipment can result in immediate banning from the EML and billing to your primary investigator or department for any damage caused to equipment and/or subsequent downtime.

Reservation Instructions and Cancellation Policy

Making Reservation

Make sure you choose the right machine before you sign up. First click on the boxes in the time period you want to reserve, then input your first name, last name, password and press "Make Reservation".  

Cancel Reservation

First click on the boxes in the time period you want to cancel, then input your first name, last name, password and press "Cancel Reservation".  Cancellations must be done at least 48 hours (for the Tecnai 12) or 24 hours (all other instruments) before your scheduled time.  If you want to cancel within 48 hours (for the Tecnai 12) or 24 hours (all other instruments), you must call the EM lab at (510-642-2085) or email us at ucbeml@berkeley.edu. However, If you are cancelling a Monday appointment, you must call before 5pm, the Friday before your appointment to cancel.

Please note: Cancellations that occur after the cut-off and for which we cannot find a replacement for your scheduled time will count as a failure to appear."

Failure to Appear

First offense: We will allow one excused incident.
Second offense: A $50 charge for FAILURE TO APPEAR.
All following offenses: You will be charged double the hourly rate for the length of time you signed up for.
