			GENERIC PROCESSING PROTOCOL


 1)	Fixation							1-2 hrs
	2% glutaraldehyde in 0.1M Sodium cacodylate	
	buffer, pH 7.2

 2)	Rinse					3 X 15 min		45 min
	0.1M sodium cacodylate buffer, pH 7.2

 3)	Post-Fix							1-2 hrs
	1% Osmium tetroxide in 0.1M sodium cacodylate buffer, 
	pH 7.2

 4)	Rinse					3 X 5 min		15 min
	0.1M sodium cacodylate buffer, pH 7.2

 5)	Rinse					3 X 10 min		30 min
	Distilled water

 6)	0.5% aqueous Uranyl Acetate				1 hour
	in the dark		(or 4C overnight)

 7)	Rinse 				3 X 15 min		45 min
	distilled water

 8)	Dehydrate (Acetone or Ethanol)	
	 35% Acetone						10 min
	 50% Acetone						10 min
	 70% Acetone						10 min
	 80% Acetone						10 min
	 95% Acetone						10 min
	100% Acetone						10 min
	100% Acetone						10 min

 9)	Infiltrate
	Acetone : resin (no accelerator)    2:1			1 hr
	Acetone : resin (no accelerator)    1:1			1 hr
	Acetone : resin (no accelerator)    1:2			1 hr

10)	Pure resin (no accelerator)					1 hr

11)	Pure resin (no accelerator)				      overnight

12)	Pure resin + accelerator					1-2 hr

13)	Embed samples into molds 	60C oven	           2 days 
	with pure resin + accelerator


NOTES:

A)	Agitate samples at all steps.
B)	Sample size should be no larger than 0.5 mm.
C)	All times are approximates.
	Times may vary depending on the type of sample.
